[glow=red,2,300]Blair kicks off campaign to become EU President [/glow] Alex Duval Smith in Paris Sunday January 13, 2008 The Observer Tony Blair launched his campaign to become the first fully-fledged President of the European Union yesterday by describing the notion of left- and right-wing politics as redundant. With France preparing to oversee the appointment process, Blair set out his vision of modern European democracy at a meeting of the French governing conservative party by also claiming that EU countries could achieve far more by working together than acting in isolation. 'Europe is not a question of left or right, but a question of the future or the past, of strength or weakness,' said the former British Prime Minister, speaking in French. In his most important speech since leaving Downing Street last June, addressing 2,000 supporters of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Blair said globalisation was eradicating traditional party lines and class distinctions and rendering old political remedies obsolete. 'It's about today versus yesterday. Less about politics and more about a state of mind; open as opposed to closed,' he said. 'Terrorism, security, immigration, organised crime, energy, the environment, science, biotechnology and higher education. In all these areas, and others, we are much stronger and able to deliver what our citizens expect from us as individual nations if we are part of a strong and united Europe,' he added before supporters of Sarkozy's Union Pour Un Mouvement Populaire (UMP) party. Blair, a close ally of Sarkozy who advised the French politician during his rise to power, is strongly backed by the French President to become President of the EU Council of Ministers in January next year, a position he has previously said he was not interested in. Sarkozy, 52, who appeared at the Palais des Sports rally without his 40-year-old girlfriend, Carla Bruni, offered unequivocal backing for Blair yesterday, describing him as an ideal candidate to run Europe. 'He is intelligent, he is brave and he is a friend. We need him in Europe. How can we govern a continent of 450 million people if the President changes every six months and has to run his own country at the same time? I want a President chosen from the top - not a compromise candidate - who will serve for two-and-a-half years,' added Sarkozy. A UMP party grandee, Jean-Pierre Rafarin, wrote in yesterday's Le Monde newspaper that Blair's experience in Europe positioned him well for the post. The position of President of the European Council - which meets at head-of-state and government level, usually four times a year - is due to be created by the 27-nation grouping in the second half of 2008, when France will chair EU ministerial meetings. At the end of this month, Blair will continue his campaign to win the leadership of Europe when he addresses a conference at the Sorbonne of Les Progressistes, a breakaway socialist party group which has joined Sarkozy's government. Blair is also due to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this month. After Blair's speech, Sarkozy took the former Prime Minister for lunch at the Hotel Bristol near the Elysee Palace. Despite support from Sarkozy - who is the architect of the mini-treaty for a European constitution - Blair is an outsider for the EU job. His support for the war in Iraq and Britain's reluctance to join the euro and other core projects is likely to count against him when EU leaders vote for their president later this year. source: observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0%2C%2C2240066%2C00.html

www.canadafreepress.com/2006/cover121406.htmDebut of the 'amero'By Judi McLeod Thursday, December 14, 2006 The People's Republic of China, long lauded by America's enemies as the world's next economic power, will be the country that will force the creation of the `North American Union' (NAU). Kofi Annan's former pointman, Canadian Maurice Strong, has been boasting from Chinese soil that China soon would be replacing America as economic king, using the jingo that's the official language at Turtle Bay. The billions of dollars China has invested in the flagging American economy will be worthless. They will have to negotiate the exchange rate to the new amero. This will then force the creation of the North American Union. The cloak of the NAU, fashioned in secrecy, will be thrown over an unsuspecting public, erasing the borders of three countries. Mexico, which already has legions of its citizens living and working inside America, is, in effect already inside the NAU. Their governments will inform the American and Canadian people that there is no option but the bread line. Unfortunately, the plan, which has been in place for some time, now, has been all but ignored by the mainstream media. One of the signs that the NAU is on its way is the collapse of the American greenback dollar paving the way for the debut of the 'amero'. "Two analysts who have reconstructed money supply data after the Fed stopped publishing it argue a coming dollar collapse will set the stage for creating the amero as a North American currency to replace the dollar," (WorldNetDaily, Dec. 13, 2006). The euro followed the same blueprint of stealth and surprise. It was already issued as replacement currency before the masses could coalesce to fight it. Who ever would have dreamed that the euro of a secular bureaucracy one day would be accepted for use at the Vatican? Pope John Paul II, who repeatedly condemned the "moral drift" of secular Brussels, sanctioned an official Euro for the Vatican. In appearance, the Vatican coin looks very much like other Euro coins. But on the flip side of the coin, the image of Pope John Paul II faces left. "By permitting his image on this new coin, John Paul II has given another symbolic and powerful stimulus to the European Union, which with the issuance of the Euro, is taking an important step towards the Universal Republic," said Atila Sinke Guimarnes in Daily Catholic. Was it all that long ago when people said the formation of the European Union was impossible? Today, the EU European holds 27 nations under its authority with other countries lined up for membership. In the US, experts are now predicting that the collapse of the dollar is imminent. "People in the U.S. are going to be hit hard," says Bob Chapman publisher of The International Forecaster newsletter. "In the severe recession we are entering now, Bush will argue that we have to form a North American Union to compete with the Euro." "Creating the amero," Chapman explained, "will be presented to the American public as the administration's solution for dollar recovery. In the process of creating the amero, the Bush administration just abandons the dollar." While the amero is being groomed to enter stage left, another phenomenon has been gathering steam outside of media headlines. The North American Union, which got its start in secrecy, has been pulled out of the closet by a grass-roots effort, that will force it onto the agenda when Nancy Pelosi and Company open the 100th congress next month. Pressed on by Conservative Caucus Chairman Howard Phillips; WND columnist and author Jerome Corsi; activist and American icon Phyllis Schlafly, leaders of the 50-member strong coalition are poised to halt any effort by the U.S. to enter into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada. Members of Schlafly's Eagle Forum have been in training for the past two months to lobby on Capitol Hill when Congress convenes. The resolution--sponsored by Republican Reps. Virgil Goode Jr. of Virginia, Tom Tancredo of Colorado, Walter Jones of North Carolina, and Ron Paul of Texas--expresses "the sense of Congress that the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway System or enter into a North American Union (NAU) with Mexico or Canada." It's no idle boast when Phillips says, "this could be the most important project on which we've ever worked." Armed with the Internet release of about 1,000 documents, obtained in a Freedom of Information Act request to the Security ad Prosperity Partnership of North America, the coalition has the potential to embarrass the governments of all three countries. According to Corsi, "the documents show the White House is engaging in collaborative relations with Mexico and Canada--outside the U.S. Constitution. Very little about the NAU has been covered by the Canadian media. The stage has been carefully set and only intervention will stop North America from taking the same stealth route that Europe took in creating the European Union and its legal tender the Euro.

State lawmakers consider highway tolls to fight global warmingAndrew Garber Seattle Times Friday, February 29, 2008 OLYMPIA — Two global-warming bills likely to pass the Legislature this session could open the door to tolls on major highways in the central Puget Sound region as a way to reduce traffic and greenhouse-gas emissions. Environmental groups consider the bills critical to a larger effort to get people out of their cars and into public transportation. Transportation accounts for almost half of the state's greenhouse-gas emissions. House Bill 2815 requires the state to sharply reduce greenhouse gases between now and 2050. It also calls for slashing the number of miles traveled by vehicles in the state by half in the same time period. The second bill, House Bill 1773, says tolls should be used to reduce greenhouse gases. It would allow tolls to become permanent and to vary in price based on the time of day. Both bills passed the House and are in the Senate. They're expected to become law. Any widespread tolling strategy would likely face strong political opposition and wouldn't happen any time soon. But environmental groups backing the measures ultimately want the region to use tolls to discourage travel by car, especially during peak travel times. The tolls also could raise billions of dollars to maintain highways and bulk up public transit as an alternative way to travel. Such a strategy is often referred to as congestion pricing or variable tolling. A study done last year found the state could raise up to $36 billion over 20 years by charging variable tolls on major highways from Lakewood, Pierce County, north to Everett and as far east as Issaquah. "Congestion pricing is a key piece of the puzzle," along with increased public transportation and more walkable communities, said Jessyn Farrell, executive director of the Transportation Choices Coalition, which backs the legislation. Such a tolling system would provide "a guaranteed commute where right now you're stuck in traffic," Farrell said. State officials shy away from saying Washington is headed toward widespread tolling. "I don't know what will happen in the future," said House Transportation Committee Chairwoman Judy Clibborn. "I don't think people are ready to get out of their cars yet." The abolition of Britain by The Reform Treaty Passed with a 138 majorityMPs voted by 362 - 224 for the Reform Treaty in its Second Reading on Monday 21st January. This sixth and final treaty, now renamed the Lisbon Treaty, formally replaces Britain with the European Union on 1st January 2009. This is a year before the deadline set by the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel. The Treaty will abolish the British Constitution, and therefore the nations of Britain and England, sweeping away our Westminster Parliament, and giving the EU the power to close it. The Treaty sets up an unelected three tier politburo executive in Brussels with absolute power, a dictatorship on the soviet model. The EU parliament has no power and is a sham. Read the Reform Treaty one page summary on the left. Gordon Brown was lying: the Treaty is worse than the constitution. This sixth treaty is the fastest moving and most secret the EU has drafted; opposition to and recognition of the EU as a police state is growing, and they know speed is vital. This Commons vote, one of the most important in our history, was largely unreported by our controlled press and media. The Queen and Parliament to complete ratification this spring, 2008 Parliament allocated 29 days, now reduced to 12, to discuss this treaty in February (not much for its own abolition). They will probably have the final ratification vote in March. The Queen, the EU's most loyal supporter, plans to give her Royal Assent in June 2008. This means Westminster and the Queen will ratify it behind our backs, as they have the other five treaties. No referendum German Chancellor Merkel chose this sixth Treaty instead of pushing it through as a constitution to avoid referendums in its member nations. She twice visited 10 Downing Street and forced Gordon Brown to cancel both his promised referendum, and his General Election. "Anti-EU" groups have encouraged us to call for a referendum precisely because the EU has already prohibited it. They know we are wasting our efforts: our four party leaderships take their orders from the EU, not from the voters. www.eutruth.org.uk/

A shaming day for democracy: MPs vote to deny British people a say on the EU treatyJANE MERRICK and IAN DRURY UK Daily Mail Thursday, March 6, 2008 The British people were finally denied a say on the EU constitution last night after a momentous day in the Commons. MPs voted against holding a referendum on the biggest shift of power to Brussels for at least a decade. This was despite pledges from both Labour and the Liberal Democrats that voters would have the chance to decide the issue. The furious parliamentary debate on Europe plunged Nick Clegg's LibDem leadership into crisis as 13 rebels - a fifth of his entire tally of MPs - joined the Tories in calling for a national vote. Mr Clegg, who had ordered his MPs to abstain from voting, helped rescue Gordon Brown from defeat in two crucial votes on the Lisbon Treaty. A Tory amendment calling for a referendum was defeated by 311 votes to 248, a Government majority of 63. Some 29 Labour MPs also rebelled against the Prime Minister. Yesterday's Commons defeat means a vote in the House of Lords - where the Government could be defeated by Tories and crossbenchers - will be the last chance for campaigners. That vote is due later this year. Yesterday's result will anger the public after 88 per cent of voters in mini-polls last weekend demanded a say. The Lisbon Treaty will see the creation of a permanent EU president, foreign minister and diplomatic service and surrenders nearly 50 national vetoes to Brussels. All three main parties made manifesto pledges in 2005 to hold a referendum on the EU constitution - now the revamped Lisbon Treaty. Yesterday David Cameron taunted the Prime Minister that he was afraid of holding a national vote on the treaty because he knew it would be lost. The Tory leader told Mr Brown at Prime Minister's Questions: "All of us in this House promised a referendum. We have the courage of our convictions - you have lost your courage and that lot (the Liberal Democrats) have lost their convictions." Full story: www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=527228&in_page_id=1770&ct=5Gordon Brown signs the controversial Lisbon Treaty, which critics claim should have been subjected to a referendum

New Documents Reveal North American Union PR CampaignJournalist acquires memos detailing secretive group's efforts to counter critics Steve Watson Infowars.net Friday, March 7, 2008New documents have been uncovered that reveal how heads of state of the U.S., Mexico and Canada are beseeching business leaders they privately meet with to launch public relations campaigns in order to counter critics of the secretive Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP). The documents detail how corporate representatives have been urged to "humanize" North American integration, promote NAFTA success stories to employees and unions and evolve the harmonization agenda "without fueling protectionism". The documentation consists of internal memos from Canada's Foreign Affairs and Internal Trade ministry, which were obtained by the World Net Daily reporter Jerome Corsi under an Access to Information Act request. "The text of the undated memo is an internal government summary of the third SPP summit meeting held Aug. 20-21, 2007, in Montebello Quebec," writes Corsi. The memo details the SPP's behind closed doors inaugural meeting with the North American Competitiveness Council (NACC), an advisory Council Comprised of 30 senior private sector representatives of North American corporations that were selected by the American, Canadian and Mexican governments at the June 2006 trilateral meeting in Cancun, Mexico. The "PR offensive", as Corsi puts it, is detailed in the several paragraphs of the memo, the author of which and the persons referred to within are unknown. Excerpts of the memo read: "Leaders had a successful meeting with the members of the NACC, which had been launched at the leader's meeting in Cancun in March 2006, to counsel governments on how they might enhance North American competitiveness," "He also urged NACC members to assist in confronting and refuting critics of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP)." "In closing, all leaders expressed a desire for the NACC to play a role in articulating publicly the benefits of greater collaboration in North America." "Leaders discussed some of the difficulties of the SPP, including the lack of popular support and the failure of the public to understand the competitive challenges confronting North America." "Governments are faced with addressing the rapidly evolving competitive environment without fueling protectionism, when industry sectors face radical transformation." "In terms of building public support, President Bush suggested engaging the support of those who had benefited from NAFTA and from North American integration (including small business owners) to tell their stories and humanize the impressive results." "NACC members should have a role in communicating the merits of North American collaboration, including by engaging their employees and unions." The NACC is expected to meet annually with SPP ministers and will engage with senior government officials on an ongoing basis. The media and the public are not invited to participate in or observe the meetings and the minutes of the meetings are to be kept secret. The memo highlights how those advancing the North American integration agenda are concerned about the exposure and subsequent public backlash they have encountered recently. The initial Security and Prosperity Partnership agreement was signed by President Bush, Mexican President Vicente Fox and then-Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin in Waco, Texas, March 23, 2005. It established working groups, under the North American Free Trade Agreement office. Jerome Corsi brought attention to the SPP two years ago when he obtained SPP documents, under the freedom of information act, showing that a wide range of US administrative law is being re-written in stealth under a program to "integrate" and "harmonize" with administrative law in Mexico and Canada, just as has become commonplace within the EU. The documents contained references to upwards of 13 working groups within an entire organized infrastructure that has drawn from officials within most areas of administrative government including U.S. departments of State, Homeland Security, Commerce, Treasury, Agriculture, Transportation, Energy, Health and Human Services, and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative. More recently representatives within Congress have petitioned the government on the secretiveness of the SPP and multiple states have introduced resolutions calling on their federal representatives to halt work on the so called "North American Union". infowars.net/articles/march2008/070308NAU.htm
